5 Unique Ways To Tackle Reader's Block - #TheBookBlogTrain

We readers, often face a problem where we cannot proceed reading a book. We cannot concentrate and feel distracted. This is a very common phenomenon among readers, and this is termed as 'reader's block'. This can have various causes, like sudden shifts in routine, changes in personal life etc. We do not feel like reading, cannot concentrate, and it feels terrible. Ugh! I hate reader's block. The TBR pile keeps growing while you cannot proceed with the books that you are reading.

However, if you are facing reader's block, do not worry. Here are five unique ways to tackle reader's block!

1. Read a book that you have read before and loved: Try reading the book which you absolutely loved and enjoyed reading previously. Trust me, this is a very useful technique to tackle reader's block. A few days back, I could not concentrate on a single book and was suffering from a terrible reader's block. I tried reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, which is one of my favourite books. And I successfully overcame reader's block!

2. Listen to audiobooks: Audiobooks are of great help when it comes to the problem of reader's block. There are various apps and websites where you can get the audiobook of your choice. Listening to audiobooks can make you feel calm and relaxed. I love listening to audiobooks. So, next time try listening to audiobooks when you are under the clutches of reader's block.

3. Cut down social media usage, try to concentrate: Social media plays a very significant part in our lives nowadays. Yes, social media does have some positive effects, but it has some negative impacts as well. While we try to concentrate on something, sometimes the urge to check WhatsApp or Instagram is so high, that we end up getting distracted and the work is not done properly. So, when you are trying to read a book, try to not check your phone constantly. Put your phone aside, and try to concentrate.

4. Read an easy book, light read: To get rid of reader's block, read an easy book.  Remember, in childhood how almost all of us loved reading comics? Comics can be of great help to overcome reader's block. Also, you can try reading some comedies or some light-reads. Reading these will make you feel refreshed. This technique works like magic!

5. Do not feel bound to complete the book if you are not enjoying it: Sometimes, we feel that we have to read a specific book because everyone is talking about it and praising how good it is. But while reading, we feel that the book is not that interesting and is really boring. Stop reading the book if it does not interest you. Do not feel bound to complete the book even if you are not enjoying reading it.

  6. We’ve all been there. Your eyes glaze over, and you can’t get past the first paragraph on the page. Or perhaps you can’t will yourself to pick up a book in the first place. “Reader’s block” is a well-documented problem, and even avid readers occasionally suffer from it. The good news is that it’s not incurable, but it might require a little creativity and effort on your part.
